What is endodontics?

Endodontics, colloquially known as “kill the nerve”, is the procedure used to remove the pulp of the tooth and sealing the pulp canal.

The pulp is the innermost part of the tooth and is comprised of a soft tissue containing blood vessels and nerves.

When this becomes infected and inflamed by different causes a root canal should be performed.

When endodontics done?

A endodontic is usually performed when the pulp tissue is affected irreversibly.

Often done when we find extensive caries, tooth fracture, trauma or internal resorption.

How endodontics done?

Initially a local anesthetic is applied to the area that is going to work and then sequentially perform various actions:

1. The access opening which involves making a cavity in the tooth exposing all of the pulp chamber instruments to provide unhindered access to the end of the root.

2. The instrumentation eliminates the content of the duct and leaves it in acceptable biological conditions to be sealed.

3.Canal filling with gutta-percha is made in the form of spikes or cones.

4. Finally a reconstruction of the tooth crown (visible part) is performed and sometimes the placement of posts and crowns to give more strength to the tooth will be needed to finish.
